A comet is hurtling towards Earth, threatening death and destruction on a massive scale. Astronomer Jason Voight warns the US President that it will crash near Arizona in eight days’ time. But other scientists scoff at his prediction and the President agrees to explode the comet with a nuclear missile. Meanwhile the people of Arizona go about their lives, unaware that death may only be hours away.
