Richard Malone (BURT REYNOLDS), an amiable but coolly efficient professional killer, packs a few changes of clothing, a thick roll of thousand dollar bills and his silencer – equipped handgun and heads off to find a quiet retirement somewhere in rural America. While driving though the remote, picturesque, former resort town of Comstock, Oregon, his prized 1969 Mustang breaks down, and Malone finds himself drawn into a web of conspiracy, murder and madness even more dangerous than the world he left behind in the city.
